Cities

Hotel Hof van Gelre has a very central location in the Achterhoek. A perfect starting point for visiting the interesting surrounding villages and cities. Here are, in our opinion, the pearls of the Achterhoek and Salland listed, starting with the picturesque villages: Almen, Borculo, Gorssel, Laren, Ruurlo, and Vorden. Each with its own character.

But also deserving special attention is the smallest town in the Netherlands...

Bronkhorst
A charming town with an old "village square" next to the Reformed Church. During the weekends before Christmas, a small Dickens Festival always takes place here. www.bronkhorst.nl

Lochem
In the small country town of Lochem, you can admire art, relax, shop comfortably, cycle past castles, hike through forests, visit a theater, and enjoy nature. There is plenty to do and see in this cozy town. Ask at the reception or visit the website of toursist info Lochem. Nearby is Zwiep, a hamlet known to many for the legend of the White Women. www.vvvlochem.nl

Zutphen
The monumental Hanseatic city of Zutphen and the green village of Warnsveld have merged into the municipality of Zutphen. Anyone coming from the west to the city is impressed by its beautiful location by the water. The river IJssel with its promenade and imposing merchant houses invites visitors from afar to come and visit. This also happens every year with hundreds of thousands of people. In the Hof van Heeckeren at 's Gravenhof, you can find the Stedelijk Museum Zutphen and the Henriette Polak. www.inzutphen.nl

Deventer
Deventer is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. There are few cities where so many monuments have been preserved. And always there is the IJssel with the ferry to the opposite district with beaches to relax. The center is characterized by the Brink, a gigantic square surrounded by cafes and restaurants, offering something for every taste. Further in the center are the Waage and the Bijtjes from Bussink's Deventer Koek. Traditionally, the Dickens Festival takes place during the weekends before Christmas. www.deventer.info
